Lions' Zonovan Knight: Moved to IR
The Lions placed Knight (shoulder) on injured reserve Saturday.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Friday that the shoulder injury that Knight sustained in Week 5 against the Seahawks was season-ending. He joined the Lions on Sept. 20 after being waived by the Jets at the end of training camp. Knight played two games this season and registered 21 yards on four touches.

Knight (shoulder) sustained a season-ending injury versus the Panthers in Week 5, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Knight's injury specifics remain undisclosed, but his shoulder issue is expected to land him on IR for the remainder of the 2023 campaign. The second-year pro suited up for only two games with Detroit this season, in which span he carried three times for 13 yards and secured his only target for eight yards. Knight (shoulder) did not participate at practice Thursday.
Knight has now sat out of consecutive practices to begin the week, casting a heavy shadow of doubt over his availability for Sunday at Tampa Bay. Jahmyr Gibbs (hamstring) also missed a second straight practice Thursday, leaving Craig Reynolds as Detroit's only fully healthy backup at running back to David Montgomery heading into Week 6.

Knight has exited Sunday's game against the Panthers with a shoulder injury.
Knight was holding his left arm and was helped off the field by trainers, according to Justin Rogers of The Detroit News. Craig Reynolds has since entered the game in his place, and with the score heavily in Detroit's favor, it's unlikely Knight will return.

Knight not only got the call to the active roster with David Montgomery (thigh) sidelined, but he logged a few carries as well and ultimately matched No. 2 running back Craig Reynolds in production. However, Jahmyr Gibbs got the vast majority of the work, and most of Knight's responsibilities still came on special teams. The NC State product is not on the fantasy radar in advance of a Week 4 road trip to Green Bay.

Detroit signed Knight off their practice squad Wednesday.
Knight's addition to the team suggests the Lions could be in need of running back depth Sunday against the Falcons, and possibly beyond, after David Montgomery (thigh) came out of the Week 2 loss to Seattle with an injury. Even if Montgomery sits out, Knight could find himself third in line for work out of the backfield behind rookie first-round pick Jahmyr Gibbs and Craig Reynolds.

Zonovan Knight: Joins Lions' practice squad
Knight signed with Detroit's practice squad Thursday, Colton Pouncy of The Athletic reports.
Knight failed to make the Jets' 53-man roster out of training camp, and rather than sticking around with New York as a member of the practice, he took the opportunity to join an organization with less running back depth. The only two running backs on Detroit's 53-man roster roster are Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery, so Knight may be just one injury away from being called up from the practice squad, much like he was down the stretch for the Jets as a rookie in 2022. He appeared in seven games for the Jets last season, carrying 85 times for 300 yards and a touchdown and recording 13 catches for 100 yards.

The Jets are waiving Knight on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Knight stuck with the team as an undrafted rookie last year and eventually made four starts, but he tumbled down the depth chart this offseason behind Breece Hall (knee), Dalvin Cook and Michael Carter. The Jets seemingly plan to keep fifth-round rookie Israel Abanikanda as their No. 4 RB.

Knight led all of the Jets' running backs in touches in the team's preseason finale. He's likely to end up on the outside looking in when the Jets announce their 53-man roster Tuesday, with Breece Hall (knee), Dalvin Cook (shoulder), Michael Carter and rookie fifth-round pick Israel Abanikanda (thigh) all expected to make the team. Knight should end up on the Jets' practice squad if he isn't claimed by another team, but he could be elevated for the regular-season opener against the Bills if injuries are still permeating the running back room come Monday, Sept. 11.
