Guru Amrut Pal Singh, known as Pali, is the primary suspect believed to have orchestrated the illegal transportation of Indians seeking to enter the United States. Pali, a Canadian citizen originally from Jalandhar, Punjab, is suspected to be hiding in the Middle East. Seven additional suspects are also being pursued by investigations.
So far, the police have detained 12 immigration agents, five of whom are from Gujarat. Despite their arrests, Pali remains at large, leading authorities to issue a lookout notice for him. Pali is said to have managed the trafficking network with accomplices primarily in Delhi and north Gujarat.
The initial FIR named 14 agents, but further investigation revealed more individuals involved, necessitating additional lookout circulars for these suspects. Some are noted for their criminal backgrounds, including a notorious figure from Delhi.
Investigators collected witness statements from 66 passengers to substantiate the claims against the agents. Reports estimate the human trafficking operation’s total cost at ₹300-325 crore, with each passenger charged between ₹70-80 lakh to over ₹1 crore based on the false assurances of job placements and crossing the US border.
Passengers traveled to Dubai on visitor visas before being redirected to Nicaragua, where they would begin a lengthy overland journey to the Mexico border. The agents instructed the migrants to feign arrest upon crossing into the U.S., claiming that lawyers would assist them in seeking asylum, allowing them to settle in the country. However, plans were foiled by French authorities before the completion of the journey.
