Mays Motors has debuted Oman’s first electric SUV, the Mays Alive, with deliveries now underway. Priced at RO11,000 for companies and RO12,000 for individuals, this SUV boasts a 610 km driving range and advanced AI technology. The company aims to produce 300 to 500 vehicles by the end of the year and will showcase the SUV at an exhibition on February 24.

Mays Motors has launched Oman’s first electric vehicle (EV), the Mays Alive, marking a pivotal advancement in the nation’s automotive industry. The initial batch of these electric SUVs is now being delivered, symbolizing a significant leap toward sustainable transportation in Oman. “Our first batch of Mays Alive e-SUVs has been delivered to customers this month,” stated Haider bin Adnan al Zaabi, co-founder of Mays Motors.

To support the transition to electric vehicles, Mays Motors has set the price of the SUV at RO11,000 for businesses and RO12,000 for private buyers. Ten units have already been handed over from the initial release. Zaabi noted that the name ‘Mays’ pays homage to a horse associated with the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, highlighting the cultural significance behind the vehicle.

The Mays Alive offers an impressive driving range of 610 kilometers, with a home charging feature. Additionally, it incorporates a modern dashboard fitted with multiple display screens and advanced controls. The SUV’s batteries are sourced from China Aviation Lithium Battery (CALB), while the motor is supplied by the German firm Bosch.

Zaabi emphasized the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into the vehicle, claiming that the AI system acts like a “real companion inside the car.” This technology can interact with the driver, recognizing their outfit and expressions, enhancing safety and enjoyment during driving.

Constructed with a carbon fiber body, the Mays Alive includes features that rival those of international brands. The company is committed to using local components to lower production costs and expedite market access while easing financial challenges through US$1.5 million in investments from local backers.

Mays Motors anticipates showcasing the Mays Alive at an exhibition by the Oman Automobile Association on February 24, allowing the public to experience the vehicle firsthand. “We believe electric vehicles represent a promising market in Oman. Our goal is to deliver between 300 and 500 electric vehicles by the end of this year,” said Zaabi, highlighting the company’s ambitious plans.

Mays Motors has successfully launched Oman’s first electric SUV, the Mays Alive, introducing a new era for the country’s automotive sector. By delivering the initial units and incorporating advanced technology and AI features, Mays Motors is not only promoting electric mobility but also enhancing local manufacturing capabilities. Their upcoming public exhibition aims to further engage potential customers as they target substantial sales in 2023.
