This high-performance SUV, featuring a 1.6-liter turbo engine, is now being assembled at Dangote Peugeot Automobiles Nigeria Limited (DPAN) in Kaduna. DPAN also offers a diverse lineup that includes the Landtrek pickup, Peugeot 5008, and the newest 508 models.

The assembly of the Peugeot 3008 represents a pivotal moment for local manufacturing, aligning with the strategic vision to elevate vehicle production in Nigeria. This initiative began when Dangote Industries entered the automotive sector in 2016, investing in a partnership with the Kaduna State Government and the Bank of Industry, leading to a license acquisition for a Peugeot assembly plant.

By 2022, operations commenced in DPAN, marking its role as a joint venture with Stellantis Group and local governments. The Kaduna plant boasts a production capacity of up to 120 vehicles per day. Additionally, Dangote has expanded operations into commercial vehicle manufacturing through the establishment of the Dangote Sinotruk West Africa Ltd (DSWAL) CKD plant in Lagos, which can produce 10,000 trucks annually and create 3,000 jobs.

The Nigerian automotive landscape is evolving as various local manufacturers aim to reduce import dependence. Key players like Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing and Stallion Group are strengthening the domestic assembly sector. The Nigerian Automotive Industry Development Programme (NAIDP) 2024-2034 seeks to boost local production of vehicle parts, essential for decreasing import costs estimated at $1 billion per year.
