The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued an advisory for light rainfall expected in Nairobi and other regions over the next two days. The forecast indicates that rain is likely to begin on Wednesday evening and continue into Thursday morning, affecting areas including the Highlands East of the Rift Valley.

Specific regions such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and parts of southeastern lowlands like Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties are anticipated to experience showers. The predicted rainfall follows previous forecasts for these areas over the past weekend and during Monday.

Despite the expected light to moderate showers, the majority of the country will remain dry and sunny. The Kenya Meteorological Department noted in a post on X, “Most areas will remain dry and sunny, but light to moderate showers are likely over the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, South-Eastern Lowlands, and Nairobi.”

The forecast estimates that rainfall could range from light (0-5mm) to moderate (5-20mm) within 24 hours, with some regions potentially experiencing isolated storms. Additionally, in a recent five-day forecast, temperatures in Nairobi are expected to peak at 28°C, with minimums reaching down to 10°C.

The weather outlook also indicates stable high temperatures in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and broader Rift Valley regions, where they may reach 31°C with nighttime lows of about 9°C. Coastal regions, including Mombasa, Kilifi, and Kwale, are anticipated to remain generally dry during the day, experiencing slight cloudiness at night, with daytime highs over 32°C and nighttime lows around 21°C.

Dr. David Gikungu, the Director General of the Kenya Meteorological Department, has warned residents in the northwestern and northeastern areas to be cautious due to forecasted strong southeasterly winds, which may reach speeds of up to 25 knots (12.5 m/s). This weather advisory advises preparedness against potential storms and changing weather conditions.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast light rainfall for Nairobi and surrounding areas, particularly from Wednesday evening to Thursday morning. While some showers are expected in various regions, most of the country will likely remain dry. The advisory also includes warnings about strong winds in certain areas. Residents are advised to stay updated and exercise caution regarding the weather conditions.
