A recent altercation at Red Stripe resulted in a serious incident in which a 24-year-old forklift operator was shot by a 57-year-old co-worker. The incident occurred when the younger man, who had fallen asleep on a bus while returning home, woke up to discover that the bus had reached Spanish Town instead of his intended stop in Portmore. This led to a heated argument between the two employees, both affiliated with Red Stripe and Celebration Brands Limited (CBL).
During the escalating confrontation on the Mandela Highway, the older worker, who is a licensed firearm holder, was struck by a black object. In response, the driver brandished his firearm and fired two shots at the forklift operator. The younger worker was subsequently injured by gunfire in multiple areas, including his head, arms, and upper body.
Following the shooting, the driver contacted law enforcement, who advised him to transport the injured man to the hospital, where he was admitted in serious condition. Police processed the scene on the bus after the incident, collecting two spent casings and seizing the firearm involved. The driver’s bus, a Toyota Coaster, is owned by him.
The police are actively continuing their investigation to ascertain the details and determine the appropriate legal actions following the incident.
This incident emphasizes the serious consequences that can arise from workplace disagreements and the necessity for effective conflict resolution strategies. Both employees were integral to Red Stripe and Celebration Brands Limited; thus, addressing interpersonal issues is critical to maintaining safety and productivity in the workplace. Currently, the injured man is recovering, and police investigations are ongoing.
