Seven Chilean migrants have been charged in a series of nationwide burglaries targeting notable athletes, including NFL stars Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes. Federal officials detailed in a complaint that these incidents began around October 2024, with the suspects breaking into the homes of these sports figures while they were away competing.
The federal complaint identifies the culprits as members of the South American Theft Group (SATG), which exploits publicly available information about athletes’ game schedules to plan the burglaries efficiently. The scheme allows them to ascertain when specific athletes will be absent from their residences, making it easier to commit the crimes without immediate confrontation.
Included in the charges are four new defendants alongside three previously identified suspects: Jordan Quiroga Sanchez, 22; Bastian Orellano Morales, 23; and Sergio Ortega Cabello, 38. The additional suspects listed are Pablo Zuniga Cartes, 24; Ignacio Zuniga Cartes, 20; Alexander Huiaguil Chavez, 24; and Bastian Jimenez Freraut, 27.
The case highlights the increasing risks that professional athletes face regarding home security amid targeted burglaries by organized crime groups. The investigation underscores the need for heightened security measures and awareness among athletes regarding their online presence and home safety practices.
