Recently, Kyrylo Budanov announced that North Korea supplies Russia with 50% of its ammunition, revealing the ongoing military collaboration between the two nations. Ukrainian intelligence estimates that over 10,000 North Korean troops have joined Russia, contributing to the conflict for the first time since 1953. The relationship poses significant military threats, although both governments deny these troop deployments.

Kyrylo Budanov, the head of Ukraine’s Intelligence Directorate, revealed that Russia is obtaining about half of its ammunition supply from North Korea amidst the ongoing conflict with Ukraine. South Korean intelligence corroborates this by stating that since the onset of the war in February 2022, North Korea has dispatched thousands of shipping containers filled with munitions to Russia. Such acts have marked a significant escalation in North Korea’s foreign military involvement since the Korean War.

The deepening military relationship between Russia and North Korea is significantly impacting the conflict in Ukraine. Reports indicate that North Korea’s military support is vital for Russia, which is facing heavy losses. As negotiations for peace continue, the exclusion of Ukrainian officials raises concerns about their future in these discussions.
