Two accomplices, Bernardino Isaac Elias, 24, and Isalino Musselenga Kayoo, 23, were also arrested shortly after. A third suspect, Gelson Guerreiro Ramos, remains at large but is wanted for his role in the crime.

The motive for the murder, according to law enforcement, stems from a suspected romantic link between Jackie and Elias, the alleged mastermind. Manuel Halaiwa from Angola’s Criminal Investigation Service stated that Jackie did not wish to leave Angola after the mission was over, prompting the crime. Elias reportedly offered $50,000 to Kayoo to carry out the murder.

Before the murder, Jackie and Elias scouted the location to devise a plan for luring Shroyer. On the day of the incident, they rented a vehicle and staged a breakdown to execute the plan. Law enforcement added that a knife was used in the attack.
