Four Individuals Granted Bail for Alleged GH¢250,000 Fence Wall Damage

Four individuals were granted bail by the Amasaman Circuit Court for allegedly demolishing a fence wall valued at GH¢250,000.00. The court mandated a return for further proceedings, and the accused remain subject to strict bail conditions to prevent disruptive behavior during the ongoing investigation.
The Amasaman Circuit Court has issued bail at GH¢250,000.00 each to four individuals accused of damaging a fence wall valued at the same amount. The court, presided over by Ms. Enid Marful-Sau, required the sureties to deposit valid national identity cards at the court’s registry.
The accused—Odai Ashong (64), Adjetey Sowah (36), Odai Mensah (41), and George Anum Tetteh (48)—must return to court on March 25, 2025. Chief Inspector Salifu Nashiru informed the court that the complainant, Mr. Samuel Darko, is a businessman residing in Tabora, Accra.
The three accused, who are farmers, and Tetteh, a mechanic, reside in Samsam. In 2020, Mr. Darko purchased four plots of land from Nii Ago Adjei in Samsam and constructed a concrete fence wall around it. However, on November 14, 2024, he found the fence wall demolished when visiting his property.
Following the complaint lodged with the Adjen Kotoku Police, Nii Ago Adjei was summoned. He testified that the accused and their elders had placed red flags on the land, asserting ownership. This led the police to suspect the accused as responsible for the destruction.
After investigation, the accused were arrested and charged. Their counsel argued for bail, asserting that the defendants were not present during the demolition and were unaware of it. He emphasized their fixed places of residence and commitment to attending court proceedings.
Prosecution requested revised bail conditions, noting previous difficulties encountered during the arraignment, including threats directed at the investigator. They also indicated that the accused had clashed with the prosecutor while receiving court documents.
The court cautioned the defendants that any further disruptive behavior could result in their bail being rescinded.
