The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, launched a 990kWp solar hybrid mini-grid in Niger State designed for Bands D and E, benefiting approximately 3,500 households. The initiative is part of a larger strategy involving multiple mini-grids across Nigeria to enhance electricity reliability. The REA is committed to ensuring long-term project sustainability.

Chief Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister of Power, recently inaugurated a solar hybrid mini-grid project with a capacity of 990kWp in the Lambata Community of Niger State. This initiative aims to provide a stable electricity supply to customers in Bands D and E, impacting around 3,500 households and local small businesses.
During the commissioning, Abba Aliyu, CEO of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), praised Adelabu’s commitment to enhancing electricity generation across various bands. He stated that efforts are in place to improve electricity reliability specifically for the lower Bands D and E, complementing ongoing developments for the higher Bands A, B, and C.
This project is part of a broader initiative to establish 40 interconnected mini-grids across Nigeria in partnership with several distribution companies. Aliyu also mentioned that recent discussions during Adelabu’s visit to Japan could lead to an additional $200 million in funding aimed at developing another 100 mini-grids nationwide.
Adelabu affirmed the Federal Government’s dedication to the project’s long-term viability. He also highlighted the REA’s role in building the necessary expertise for the continuous maintenance and operation of these energy systems, ensuring they meet community needs sustainably.

The inauguration of the 990kWp solar hybrid mini-grid by Minister Adelabu marks a significant step towards enhancing electricity reliability in Niger State’s lower bands. This project not only addresses immediate energy needs but also aligns with broader initiatives to strengthen Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure. Ongoing collaborations with international partners further bolster these efforts for sustainable energy solutions.
