The Kenya Meteorological Department predicts rain across Kenya starting mid-March, lasting until late July. Farmers are urged to prepare for planting, while concerns persist over the dry conditions and delayed rains affecting agricultural activities.

Experts from the Kenya Meteorological Department forecast rainfall across the country in the next three weeks following dry conditions. A meteorologist announced that rainfall is expected to commence in various regions by the third week of March, characterized by heavy precipitation lasting from mid-March through late July.

Farmers are encouraged to prepare for the planting season, including preliminary land tilling, to effectively utilize the upcoming rains. Dry planting is advised during the first two weeks of March, taking advantage of the anticipated rains starting mid-March, especially in the third week.

Concerns about the delayed rains have arisen among farmers, who are contemplating pausing their activities due to the current dry spell. With the usual short rains at the beginning of the year absent, farmers are increasingly anxious about the unexpected climatic changes this season.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a warning about high temperatures and dry weather for the week of February 25 to March 3. Kenyans should expect daytime temperatures surpassing 30°C, with regions like Central Kenya and the Rift Valley experiencing temperatures between 25°C and 30°C during the day, while nights could drop under 10°C in specific areas.

In summary, the Kenya Meteorological Department anticipates significant rainfall beginning mid-March, lasting until late July, which is crucial for farmers’ preparations. This forecast follows a period of prolonged dry weather that has led to frustrations among the agricultural community. Farmers are advised to act promptly in preparation for the rains while taking precautions against the current heat wave.
