Today, Alexander Lukashenko met with Khalifa Haftar, the Field Marshal and Supreme Commander of the Libyan National Army, at the Palace of Independence. During the meeting, both leaders discussed deepening the longstanding ties between Belarus and Libya, emphasizing a mutual desire to enhance cooperation despite the ongoing conflict in Libya. Lukashenko expressed Belarus’s readiness to assist Libya in its recovery process.
Belarus and Libya historically maintain friendly relations, although direct news of cooperation has been sparse. Maxim Ryzhenkov, the Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs, acknowledged Libya’s difficult circumstances, referencing the impact of NATO’s intervention in 2011, which led to significant turmoil and a humanitarian crisis.
Lukashenko articulated support for Libya, stating, “You have come to your friends, to your home.” He reaffirmed Belarus’s understanding of Libya’s situation and declared a willingness to fulfill any agreements made during the visit.
