Tragic Aftermath of Libya Boat Incident: Nine Pakistani Lives Repatriated

PARACHINAR: Twelve out of sixteen Pakistanis who perished in the Libya boat tragedy have been brought back to Pakistan. The remains of nine victims from Parachinar were transported home via helicopter. The incident occurred on February 5 when a migrant boat capsized off the Libyan coast, resulting in numerous fatalities. According to the Foreign Office, 13 of the identified victims were residents of Parachinar.
The bodies of 12 of the victims were flown into Islamabad Airport by Qatar Airways before being sent to Peshawar by ambulance. From Peshawar, the remains of the nine Parachinar victims were airlifted back to their hometown for burial following funeral prayers. Kurram Deputy Commissioner Ashfaq Ahmed noted that the four remaining bodies were expected to arrive in Islamabad soon for similar transport arrangements.
Among the deceased was 20-year-old Abid Hussain, who had been married for four years. His brother, Mushahid Hussain, expressed profound sorrow, stating, “His death has shattered our home.” Another victim, Asif, left home for Europe due to poverty and insecurity, and his brother, Saber Hussain, lamented, “Losing him is painful; if I get a chance, I too will leave this place for a peaceful life and better employment.”
Mukhtar, brother of victim Ashfaq Hussain, shared his grief by stating, “Ashfaq’s death has devastated our family.” Ashfaq had not yet married and had embarked on this journey in search of opportunities, only to meet a tragic end.
