A Bangladeshi youth was fatally shot by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) at the Kasba border in Brahmanbaria. The incident occurred around 7:30 pm on Friday, involving a 32-year-old resident named Al-Amin from Dakshin Putiya village. Reports indicate that the BSF fired rubber bullets at a group of individuals near the border, injuring Al-Amin who was subsequently taken into custody. He succumbed to his injuries at approximately 9:00 pm while receiving treatment at the BSF camp.

Billal Hossain, chairman of the Bayek union parishad, confirmed the shooting but noted that the circumstances are still unclear. Efforts to contact Al-Amin’s family were hindered due to network issues in the area. The Dakshin Putiya locality is known for crime, particularly smuggling activities, and Al-Amin was reportedly involved in sugar smuggling.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Samiul Islam stated that the BSF opened fire on Al-Amin under the suspicion of him being a smuggler. Following the shooting, he was transported to the BSF camp for treatment, where he later died from his injuries. The UNO mentioned that communication regarding the incident was made with the BSF through the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and a flag meeting is scheduled to occur, potentially allowing for the transfer of Al-Amin’s body.

Residents reported previous instances of violence along the border, noting that two youths were shot in the region last November, and another individual was killed in April. These incidents highlight ongoing tensions and issues related to border security in this area.
