In South Sudan, Chinese pediatrician Dr. Tai Haifu has saved many newborns, treating over 600 infants for various neonatal conditions. A Chinese doctor, Tai Haifu, working in South Sudan, has significantly impacted neonatal care by treating over 600 newborns in the past six months. Achol Deng, a 37-year-old mother, rushed to Juba Teaching Hospital with her newborn son who showed no signs of life at birth. Following a diagnosis of bacterial infection and respiratory distress syndrome, Tai administered oxygen and medication, leading to a gradual recovery for the baby. During this time, Tai provided essential care alongside managing a busy neonatal ward.
For 11 days, Tai closely monitored the baby’s vital signs and made adjustments to treatment. His commitment to patient care included bringing pediatric medicines from China to help children without financial pressure on their families. Additionally, Tai enhanced patient care by developing English versions of medical records and treatment guidelines for common medications in the neonatal ward.
