Bekele Mekuria, the peace and security head of Chagni, provided insights into the event, suggesting the shooting might have been a result of a hasty reaction. He stated that security personnel, upon noticing a rickshaw moving after being ordered to stop, opened fire when the driver did not comply.
Authorities have stated that an investigation is ongoing, with assurances that the identities of those responsible will be made public in the future. As part of the inquiry, five security personnel, including the kebele administrator on duty that night, are under investigation for their roles in the shooting.
