IG Douglas Kanja Expresses Condolences for Fallen Officer Samuel Kaetuai

Inspector General Douglas Kanja confirmed that the body of Samuel Kaetuai, a slain police officer in Haiti, will be repatriated to Kenya for burial. Kanja visited the family to offer condolences and emphasized government support, stating Kaetuai died heroically while working for global peace. Kaetuai was killed during a patrol on February 23, 2025, and was among the first police officers deployed in the Haiti mission.

The body of Samuel Kaetuai, a Kenyan police officer killed in Haiti during a security operation, will soon be sent back to Kenya for burial. Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has confirmed that arrangements are complete, and the body is expected to arrive this week.

During a visit to Kaetuai’s family in Naserian village, Kajiado East, IG Kanja expressed condolences, labeling the officer as a hero who lost his life in service to global peace. He reassured the family of the government’s support during their time of mourning.

Kanja emphasized that the slain officer would receive a dignified send-off, with all burial expenses covered by the government. “We have lost a young man who sacrificed himself for the sake of global peace,” he stated.

28-year-old Kaetuai was shot by suspected gang members on February 23, 2025, while patrolling the Artibonite region near Port-au-Prince. He became the first police officer to die in Haiti since the mission commenced.

Having joined the police service in 2021, Kaetuai was part of 600 Kenyan officers deployed to Haiti under the Kenya-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS). His father, Kaetuai Salaash, mourned his son as a tragic loss, describing him as a caring and responsible individual who supported the family.
