RSA and Namibia Borders Secured Through Cross-Border Operation

A recent cross-border operation was conducted from February 27 to March 2, aimed at addressing crimes along the borders between the Republic of South Africa (RSA) and Namibia. This operation, involving agencies such as the South African Police Service, Customs, and the Border Management Authority, resulted in several significant achievements to enhance border safety and security.

During the operation, law enforcement officials engaged in various activities including search and seizure operations, vehicle checkpoints, and border patrols. A total of 1,065 vehicles and 1,489 individuals were searched, leading to three arrests related to drug possession and undocumented foreign nationals. Confiscated items included Mandrax valued at R4,525 and cash suspected to be tied to criminal activities.

Additionally, the operations resulted in the seizure of illegal items such as fish nets, fish traps, illicit cigarettes valued at R150,156, and tobacco products worth approximately R2,000. Fines totaling R14,600 were issued for various traffic violations. Col. Cherelle Ehlers emphasized the ongoing commitment to maintaining security along the RSA and neighbouring borders.

The cross-border operation demonstrated a comprehensive approach to tackling crime along the RSA-Namibia border, resulting in numerous arrests and confiscations of illegal goods.
