U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the FBI have arrested David Alejandro Orellana-Aleman, a 27-year-old illegal Salvadoran alien, in Hyattsville, Maryland, on February 27. He is charged in El Salvador with firearm possession, extortion, and ties to terrorism. Orellana is recognized as a high-ranking leader of the MS-13 gang, managing its operations in the U.S., Mexico, and Europe.

Matthew Elliston, acting Field Office Director of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, emphasized that Orellana’s arrest undermines the MS-13 organization. He highlighted the importance of collaboration between ICE and the FBI in enhancing community health and safety by targeting illegal alien offenders.

FBI official William J. DelBagno stated that this apprehension increases safety in Maryland, removing a top-level gang figure from influencing violence. He noted that their joint efforts effectively disrupt criminal networks exploiting local communities.

Orellana previously faced arrest in El Salvador on December 1, 2016, for firearm possession and other offenses linked to MS-13. He entered the U.S. unlawfully, avoiding immigration controls. Additionally, he had been arrested by local authorities for driving without a license on December 9, 2024.
