Morocco Welcomes Rain After Drought: Significant Weather Changes Observed

Morocco is experiencing significant rainfall after months of drought, thanks to a weakening high-pressure system. Meteorologists predict continued precipitation in March, particularly impacting northern and central regions. Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and snow are expected, especially over the weekend, marking a notable shift in weather.
Morocco is currently experiencing a welcome return to rainfall after months of dry conditions and an unprecedented drought. The significant weather changes are attributed to a weakening of the high-pressure system, allowing for precipitation and storm activity across the country. This development comes after an extended spell of higher-than-normal temperatures.
Houcine Youabed, Head of Communications at the General Directorate of Meteorology, indicated that meteorologists anticipate a continuation of rainy conditions throughout March. He explained that these weather changes are the result of several low-pressure systems moving into the region, which have brought not only rain but also thunderstorms and snowfall to various regions since last week.
The upcoming weather forecast suggests heavy rainfall particularly on Thursday, affecting northern and central Morocco, including the Tiznit region, which will also experience thunderstorms and snowfall. Although Friday might see a brief respite in weather conditions, a stronger low-pressure system is expected to bring significant rainfall on Saturday and Sunday, impacting most of the country and accompanied by strong winds along the coasts.
Currently, the central regions, including Marrakech and the Souss regions, are experiencing beneficial rainfall, with predictions of increased precipitation intensity this weekend. Notably, Morocco’s recent weather disturbances contrast sharply with conditions in December and January when the Azores High blocked favorable weather systems, leading to scant rainfall, while neighboring countries like Portugal faced significant downpours.
Morocco is experiencing much-needed rainfall after a prolonged drought and high temperatures, with meteorologists expecting ongoing precipitation throughout March due to shifting weather patterns. The influence of low-pressure systems is leading to rain, thunderstorms, and snow, particularly in northern and central regions. As conditions are set to improve temporarily, a stronger weather system will bring heavy rain over the weekend, marking a significant change in Morocco’s weather.
