Recent reports indicate that North Korea has dispatched an additional 3,500 troops to Russia, coinciding with heightened military activities involving Ukraine. This deployment comes after a previous transfer of 1,500 troops in early 2023 to sustain losses from the initial 11,000 soldiers sent to Kursk, Russia in October. South Korean lawmaker Yu has shared insights about these developments based on a briefing from Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s defense intelligence.
The North Korean soldiers are currently engaging in field adaptation training at five distinct locations within Russia’s Far East. Reports suggest that there may be a potential for a third wave of troop deployment, indicating ongoing military collaboration between Russia and North Korea.
Ukrainian intelligence has revealed that psychological tactics aimed at compelling North Korean soldiers to surrender during combat have demonstrated limited results. In terms of losses, around 400 North Korean troops have been reported killed in action thus far. Among the injured, approximately 3,600 have sustained wounds, with about 300 of these soldiers managing to return to active duty after their recovery.
