Renault Group Morocco Announces Creation of New Engineering Center

Renault Group Morocco has established Renault Technology Morocco (RTMA), appointing Francisco José Martín Hernández as Director General. RTMA will operate from Tetouan and Tangier, enhancing collaboration between engineering and manufacturing. This development aligns with the group’s strong performance, including record vehicle production and robust sales in both domestic and export markets.
Renault Group Morocco has officially launched Renault Technology Morocco (RTMA), a new engineering center. Francisco José Martín Hernández has been appointed as Director General, effective March 1. The RTMA will operate from two locations: a headquarters in Tetouan focusing on technology and a facility at the Renault Group plant in Tangier dedicated to industrial operations. This setup enhances collaboration and proximity to production sites.
Hernández will report directly to Cedric Combemorel, Deputy CTO – VP Global Engineering & Tech, and functionally to Mohamed Bachiri, Director General of Renault Group Morocco. His extensive experience across Renault’s operations in Spain, Romania, and France contributed to his appointment. The company highlighted his expertise in addressing the challenges faced by the group.
A graduate of the Polytechnic University of Madrid and École Centrale de Lyon, Hernández joined Renault in 2002. Over the years, he has advanced through various key positions in quality engineering and project management in the mechanical and vehicle engineering divisions. Most recently, he was the Head of Vehicle Engineering at Renault Technology Spain.
The establishment of RTMA coincides with impressive performance metrics for Renault Group Morocco. In 2024, the company produced a record 413,614 vehicles, an 8% rise from the previous year. The Tangier plant alone manufactured 312,381 units, marking a 9% increase while SOMACA in Casablanca produced over 100,000 vehicles for the first time, achieving 101,233 units, a 7% growth.
Export operations have also been successful, with around 370,165 vehicles exported to 68 destinations in 2024. Notably, the Tangier facility exported 298,045 units, making up 95% of its total production, while Casablanca exported 72,120 vehicles, accounting for 71% of its overall output. In the domestic market, Renault maintained a robust presence with a 16.1% market share, selling 28,348 vehicles, while Dacia led with a 25% market share, selling 39,330 units in 2024.
The group’s achievements culminated in a turnover of MAD 63 billion ($6.3 billion), affirming its status as Morocco’s largest private enterprise. Its automotive sector ecosystem contributes to 38% of the overall industry turnover, employing over 10,000 individuals, demonstrating significant impact on the local economy.
The creation of Renault Technology Morocco signifies a strategic enhancement for Renault Group Morocco, enabling closer integration of engineering and manufacturing divisions crucial for performance optimization. Appointing Hernández, an experienced leader, positions the new center for success amidst the group’s impressive production records and robust market presence. The RTMA establishment aligns with Renault’s commitment to advancing technological and industrial capabilities in Morocco.
