Michel Issa has been appointed the U.S. ambassador to Lebanon, succeeding Lisa A. Johnson. A businessman and former banker, Issa has extensive experience in finance and has also owned automotive dealerships. He is also an avid sports enthusiast and holds various leadership positions in his career.

Michel Issa has been appointed as the new U.S. ambassador to Lebanon by President Donald Trump, taking over from Lisa A. Johnson. Originally from Bsous in Aley, Issa spent his early childhood in Beirut, later relocating to Paris and then New York. He is currently retired and lives in Florida.

Issa is a seasoned CEO, businessman, and investor with extensive experience in banking and the automotive industry. After moving to Paris, he earned a degree in economics from the University of Paris X, further enhancing his education at the Cours D’ Etudes Superieures de Banque Institutes.

He launched his career in finance, working as a currency trader and senior foreign exchange trader for notable institutions such as UBAF, Chase Manhattan Bank, Banque Indosuez, and Credit Agricole. His career in banking featured managing trading floors in major cities and innovating financial products throughout his tenure.

Issa’s influence in banking is marked by his successful establishment of a cutting-edge trading floor, earning accolades in premier financial journals. He also contributed to discussions on credit, compliance, and technology’s role in finance at various industry panels.

In 1999, Issa transitioned to the automotive sector, acquiring Porsche, Audi, and Volkswagen dealerships. His entrepreneurial skills led to the creation of a company that generated $35 million in annual sales before he sold the dealerships as separate entities in 2010.

In addition to his business success, Michel has a passion for sports. He competed internationally in track and field during his youth and later embraced tennis and golf as hobbies. Throughout his career, he has held various significant positions, including CEO of the Newton Investment Group since 2011 and Vice President at Credit Agricole Indosuez from 1985 to 1997.
