Rahul Gandhi demands a parliamentary discussion on alleged voter list inaccuracies, supported by opposition concerns across multiple states. Saugata Roy highlights specific flaws in West Bengal, emphasizing a need for thorough revisions before upcoming elections, demanding accountability from the Election Commission.

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition, called for a discussion in the Lok Sabha regarding the integrity of voter lists, which has been questioned by several political parties. During Zero Hour, he affirmed that while the government does not compile voter lists, it is crucial to address the matter. He stated, “The entire opposition has been demanding a discussion on voter lists.” He highlighted the widespread concern, stating, “Questions have been raised by the opposition in one voice in every state, including Maharashtra.”

Trinamool Congress member Saugata Roy echoed these concerns, mentioning flaws in the voter lists, specifically citing issues raised by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who found instances of voters sharing the same Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) numbers in multiple constituencies. Roy announced that a delegation would approach the newly-appointed chief election commissioner to discuss the inaccuracies identified in the lists.

He insisted on a thorough review of the voter lists before the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal and Assam, emphasizing the necessity due to serious discrepancies previously noted in Maharashtra and Haryana. Roy stated, “Let the total voter lists be thoroughly revised. The Election Commission should answer to the country why some mistakes occurred in the lists.”

The demand for a parliamentary discussion on alleged voter fraud highlights significant concerns surrounding the integrity of voter lists in India. Rahul Gandhi insists on addressing these concerns with full opposition support, while Saugata Roy underscores specific flaws with concrete examples. The call for a revision of voter lists before upcoming elections emphasizes the need for electoral transparency and accountability from the Election Commission.
