Mozambique’s Ministry of Health Launches Specialist Training Initiative Abroad

Mozambique’s Ministry of Health has launched a five-year program to train specialist doctors abroad to address professional shortages. Minister Ussene Isse highlighted the presence of 500 foreign doctors in the country and announced an electronic tracking system for medicines to prevent diversion.
The Ministry of Health (MISAU) of Mozambique has initiated an accelerated program for training specialist doctors abroad. During the “Cartas na Mesa” Program on Radio Mozambique, Minister of Health Ussene Isse revealed that currently, there are 500 foreign medical specialists working in Mozambique. This influx of foreign expertise underscores the urgent need for local specialist training to bolster healthcare.
Furthermore, Minister Isse announced plans to implement an electronic system for tracking the distribution of medicines in an attempt to eliminate drug diversion in hospitals across Mozambique. He emphasized that there is no logical reason for the medicines procured by the State not reaching health units as intended.
