The pair was en route from Dhigurah Island to the capital, Malé, when the vessel began to fill with water, stranding 50 individuals at sea. They documented the distressing experience during the unfolding situation.

The couple reported that their boat sank about 40 minutes into the cruise after hitting a large wave that compromised its stability. Gomez recalled, “When we hit that wave, a really big wave came into the boat, but it didn’t sink us right away.” After 20 additional minutes, the boat began tilting significantly.
