Impacts of Tropical Cyclone Jude on Mozambique and Malawi

Tropical Cyclone Jude has made landfall in Mozambique, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. Expected rainfall is between 100 to 200 mm, with some local areas possibly exceeding 300 mm. Wind gusts may reach cyclone strength in affected regions.
The World Meteorological Centre Beijing (WMC-BJ) reports that Tropical Cyclone “Jude” made landfall on Mozambique’s eastern coast at 08:00 Beijing time on March 10, 2025. It is projected to move west at 10 to 15 kilometers per hour while rapidly losing intensity.
In its wake, Jude will bring heavy to torrential rainfall across central and northern Mozambique and southern Malawi, with some areas receiving between 100 to 200 mm of rain, and possibly exceeding 300 mm.
Strong winds are anticipated with gusts reaching 8 to 9 levels in central and northern Mozambique, including coastal regions and parts of the Mozambique Channel. Winds may escalate to 10 to 12-grade near the sea, with gusts between 13 and 14-grade in certain locations.
