A tragic incident in Chipinge involved a man who murdered his wife in a maize field and subsequently attempted to conceal the crime by burning her belongings nearby. This event reportedly occurred on February 25, 2023, according to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA). The suspect, who had been absent from home for 18 days, confronted his wife at a local car wash and accused her of infidelity.
Following the accusation, the man brutally assaulted his wife during their return home. Despite their landlord’s attempts to intervene, the violence escalated as the assailant continued to attack not only his wife but also her friend. The assault culminated in the maize field, where the wife ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
To conceal his actions, the perpetrator covered his wife’s body with a blanket and cloth. He then returned home, collected some of her belongings, and set them ablaze near where her body lay. A local resident discovered the body on March 1, 2023, while visiting her maize fields.
Law enforcement apprehended the suspect at the Holland Business Centre in Chipinge on March 12. He has since been remanded in custody after appearing before a local court on charges of murder, with his next hearing scheduled for March 28.
