Authorities have discovered clothes believed to belong to Sudiksha Konanki, a missing Indian-American student, on a beach in the Dominican Republic. The clothing includes a white netted sarong and flip-flops and was found on a beach lounge chair. Surveillance footage from the night she disappeared shows her with Joshua Riibe, 22, a senior at Minnesota’s St. Cloud State University, around 4:15 AM near the beach. Law enforcement suggests she may have fallen into the ocean, though they are not dismissing the possibility of foul play.
Sudiksha Konanki, 20, originally from Virginia and a student at the University of Pittsburgh, was reported missing on March 6 after traveling to the RIU Hotel and Resort in Punta Cana for spring break with friends. According to her friends, they last saw her around 4 PM. Riibe, who was with her, has been detained and interrogated. His parents mentioned, “Despite his full willingness to cooperate, Josh has been detained under irregular conditions…,” indicating concerns about the nature of his questioning.
Law enforcement agencies are working closely with the FBI in this case. Virginia Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Thomas Julia stated, “We want to ensure the investigation is comprehensive and includes all possible assets and techniques.” He has identified Riibe as a person of interest, not a suspect, as the investigation continues into the circumstances of Konanki’s disappearance. The search operation has reached its eighth day as officials intensify efforts to locate her.
