White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended the deportation actions, stating that the administration believed the federal court order had no lawful basis. She emphasized the administration’s rights under Article II powers, which include authority over foreign affairs and the removal of foreign criminals from U.S. territory.
El Salvador’s President Bukele disclosed that the majority of deported individuals were affiliated with the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, alongside significant MS-13 members. Bukele conveyed that the criminal elements are being processed in the CECOT, specifically designed for terrorism-related confinement, highlighting a renewed commitment to reducing crime in the country.
