Armenia denies ceasefire violations by Azerbaijan and calls for a joint investigation mechanism. The Armenian government insists on peace negotiations, with Egypt supporting their efforts. Armenia has rejected Azerbaijan’s claims of ceasefire violations along their border, emphasizing the need for a shared mechanism to examine such allegations. This comes as Egypt supports negotiations for a draft peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The Armenian Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement addressing Azerbaijan’s recent claims from March 16-18 regarding six reported ceasefire violations. It stated that inspections by the Armenian Ministry of Defense disproved these assertions, claiming, “After the above-mentioned reports, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia conducted inspection works and as a result of the inspection it refuted the claims…”.

The Armenian Ministry of Defense reminded Azerbaijan of a proposal made on June 22, 2024, to establish a joint mechanism for investigating ceasefire issues, adding that Azerbaijan has not yet responded positively. It stated, “Azerbaijan hasn’t given a positive response to this day”. On March 17, Armenia declared its readiness to verify the facts supporting Azerbaijani accusations if provided.

The Prime Minister’s Office noted that Azerbaijan has not conveyed any evidence of ceasefire violations to Armenia. The statement asserted, “The Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia don’t have a reason or order to violate the ceasefire” and emphasized Armenia’s commitment to peace.

Armenia called on Azerbaijan to discuss the timing and location for signing the peace agreement, stating that the agreed draft addresses critical issues of peace and relations between the nations while proposing frameworks for future dialogues.

In January 2025, Armenia submitted a written proposal on railway cargo transportation and suggested creating a bilateral arms control mechanism, awaiting Azerbaijan’s favorable reply. Armenia is also open to continuing work on border delimitation with Azerbaijan.

Meanwhile, Egypt commended the progress in negotiations regarding the peace agreement, expressing hope for its timely signing to help resolve the conflict and promote stability in the South Caucasus. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recognized this step as a significant milestone in the resolution efforts by both nations.

Armenia has firmly denied allegations of ceasefire violations by Azerbaijan while advocating for a collaborative approach to address such claims. The Armenian government is eager for peace talks, and Egypt’s support further highlights the international interest in resolving the conflict.
