Egypt will invest EGP 3 billion in state-funded medical treatments from March to June 2025, focusing on eliminating waiting lists for procedures for low-income citizens. This includes a commitment to treat 60,000 uninsured patients. Targeted procedures span various specialties, with efforts to maximize treatment during Ramadan.

Egypt’s government is set to provide an EGP 3 billion boost for state-funded medical treatment from March to June 2025. This initiative, led by Deputy Prime Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk, is part of a broader social protection strategy aimed at eliminating waiting lists for urgent medical cases, particularly for low-income and vulnerable citizens.

The Ministries of Health and Finance announced that over EGP 1 billion has already been allocated to kickstart the treatment of 60,000 uninsured low-income patients, fully funded by the state. The government reassured that it is committed to securing additional finances as necessary, which contributes to the total EGP 3 billion budget increase.

The types of medical procedures covered under this initiative include cancer surgeries, cardiac and neurological operations, orthopedic treatments, as well as kidney and liver transplants. This comprehensive funding plan reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing medical care across various healthcare specialties.

Currently, the state budget and healthcare facilities treat about 2.355 million cases annually. The additional EGP 3 billion funding, spread from March to June 2025, is aimed at further reducing waiting lists. Special measures are planned to optimize treatment capacity during Ramadan and April to coincide with Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

Egypt’s allocation of EGP 3 billion for medical treatment by June 2025 demonstrates a strong commitment to improving health services. The initiative aims to reduce waiting lists, particularly for low-income patients. By expanding access to critical medical procedures, the government is taking significant steps towards advancing healthcare equity.
