IGP Yohuno Restructures Ghana Police Hierarchy for Improved Operations

On March 19, 2024, IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno restructured the Ghana Police hierarchy to improve management and operations. Key appointments include COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah as DG of Research and Planning, and DCOP Ms. Lydia Yaako Donkor as DG of the Criminal Investigation Department. Other notable appointments have been made across various departments and regional commands.

On March 19, 2024, Commissioner of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Ghana, announced several changes within the police hierarchy to enhance management and operational efficiency. The information was released through a statement by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Grace Akrofi-Ansah from the Police Public Affairs Directorate, which was shared with the Ghana News Agency.

Key appointments include COP Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah as the new Director General of Research and Planning. DCOP Ms. Lydia Yaako Donkor has been appointed as the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), with DCOP Frank Abrokwa serving as her deputy. Other directors appointed include COP Paul Manly Awini for Service Workshop and COP Daniel Kwame Afriyie as Director General for the Private Security Organisation.

Additionally, COP Dr. Ernest Kwabena Owusu is assigned as Director General for Services, while COP Mohammed Fuseini Suraji is the new Director General of the National Patrols Department (NAPD). Other notable changes include COP Dr. Sayibu Pabi Gariba as the new Technical DG and COP Mr. Michael Nketia Frempong designated the DG for Finance.

In further restructuring, COP Mr. Asumadu Okyere Darko has taken over as the DG for Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB), with COP Iddi Lansah Seidu as DG for Welfare. COP Mrs. Faustina A.K. Andoh-Kwofie will lead the Ghana Police Command and Staff College in Winneba, while COP Joseph Okla Gyamera is appointed as the DG for Legal and Prosecutions.

Other appointments include COP Peter Baba Atiniak as DG for Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) and DCOP Dr. David Agyeman Adjem as DG for Administration. New regional police commanders include DCOP Mr. Duut Tuaruka for Greater Accra and DCOP Francis Kwame Tsidi for Western North, among others, ensuring comprehensive coverage across the regions.

The restructuring of the Ghana Police Service is aimed at optimizing operational effectiveness and improving management. New appointments cover various critical departments, ensuring a directed approach to police work, enhancing the capabilities of the Service across Ghana’s regions.
