On March 19, 2025, Richard Jakpa, the Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, reportedly led a raid at the residence of former Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, accompanied by 20 armed personnel. The raid occurred at Dr. Addison’s home in Roman Ridge, Accra, while he was present.

During the operation, some of the armed men were documented wearing balaclavas and wielding AK-47 semi-automatic rifles. Reports indicate that they systematically disabled all CCTV cameras installed in the house to avoid surveillance during their activities.

The operatives demanded that Dr. Addison assist them in locating ‘vaults’ in his residence. However, Dr. Addison, taken aback by the situation, calmly informed them that he did not possess any vaults or caches of cash in his home, as per reports by AsaaseOnline.com.

Following the incident, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader of Parliament, paid a visit to Dr. Addison to offer support after the raid. He shared his visit on social media, noting the encounter with the former governor at his residence.

The raid on Dr. Ernest Addison’s residence by a team led by Richard Jakpa raises significant questions regarding the methods employed by national security operatives. The incident highlights concerns about the conduct of armed personnel and the implications for public trust in state institutions. Adding to the narrative, key political figures such as Alexander Afenyo-Markin have publicly shown their support for Dr. Addison following the distressing event.
