Vice President Jeremiah Koung endorses Samuel Kogar for the April 2025 Nimba County by-election after the passing of Senator Prince Johnson. Koung calls for unity between the Mah and Dan communities to stabilize the county. This marks a definitive support compared to his earlier indecision in prior elections.

In Liberia, Vice President Jeremiah Koung has officially endorsed Samuel Kogar of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) for a by-election set for April 22, 2025. This election is prompted by the passing of influential Nimba County Senator Prince Johnson, a founder of the MDR, in November 2024.

The National Elections Commission (NEC) recently announced eight preliminary candidates for the upcoming election. During a simulcast through community radio, Koung expressed his belief that Kogar is the ideal candidate to continue Johnson’s legacy.

Koung indicated his support for Mack Gblinwon, a candidate from the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC), for a different election, emphasizing his commitment to Kogar in this context. He urged the Mah people of Nimba to allow the Dan people to participate in this election, proposing that their involvement would enhance county stability and balance.

Koung’s endorsement clarifies his position in supporting Kogar, contrasting his earlier indecisiveness in the last by-election when he did not formally endorse any candidate after being elevated to his current role. This new endorsement highlights his commitment to the political dynamics in Nimba County.

Vice President Koung’s endorsement of Samuel Kogar solidifies support for Kogar in the upcoming Nimba County by-election, following Prince Johnson’s death. Koung advocates for inter-community collaboration, encouraging the Mah to allow the Dan people’s participation, underscoring a balanced political landscape. This endorsement contrasts with his previous indecision, reinforcing Koung’s commitment to Kogar and Nimba’s future.
