The incident occurred on a Sunday night in Kawangware. In a police report filed under OB No. 56/23/03/2025, Corporal Yusuf recounted being confronted by three men upon exiting a motorcycle at Kwa Mungai. He claimed they attempted to rob him, leading to a struggle over his firearm, during which he shot a man who allegedly grabbed his gun. He later reported the incident, stating he suffered injuries.
Police arrived at the scene to find Lang’at, approximately 35 years old, with several gunshot wounds, who later died in the hospital. Contrary to the officer’s claims, witnesses indicate that a quarrel broke out between Lang’at and Corporal Yusuf after they played pool together. During the altercation, Lang’at attempted to grab the officer’s weapon, which led to Corporal Yusuf shooting him multiple times.
Lang’at and the officer were reportedly friends, frequently seen socializing together in the area. Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has promised a thorough investigation into Lang’at’s death to clarify the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Reports state that seven shots were fired in the altercation, raising serious questions regarding the account provided by the police officer involved.
