Jamaican Road Safety Statistics: Insights on Fatalities by Day

Thursday is the safest day for Jamaican road users in 2025, with only five deaths, while Wednesday is the most dangerous, accounting for 20 fatalities. Overall, fatalities have decreased this year compared to the previous year, with vulnerable users comprising a significant percentage of the deaths.

According to the Island Traffic Authority (ITA), Thursday has emerged as the safest day for Jamaican road users in 2025, recording only five fatalities from four fatal crashes since the year’s inception. In stark contrast, Wednesday has been identified as the most hazardous day, with 20 fatalities resulting from 20 crashes.

Following Wednesday, Sunday ranks second with 19 deaths from 13 fatal crashes. A tragic incident occurred on the PJ Patterson Highway, which accounted for four fatalities, including an eight-year-old minor. The statistics show that Saturday is next, with 15 fatalities, while Monday and Tuesday each recorded 13 and 10 deaths, respectively.

As of March 28, 2025, at least 92 individuals have died in 83 fatal crashes, marking a 17 percent decrease in fatalities and 12 percent decline in crashes compared to the previous year. The fatalities included 24 motorcyclists, 23 private vehicle drivers, 20 pedestrians, and nine private vehicle passengers, with vulnerable road users making up 59 percent of the total fatalities.

The analysis of road safety in Jamaica shows a clear disparity between days of the week, with Thursday being the safest while Wednesday ranks as the deadliest. Overall fatalities have decreased since last year, highlighting improvements in road safety, although vulnerabilities remain, especially among motorcyclists and pedestrians.
