Constable Peter Loverage Mombe was sentenced to 10 months in prison after being convicted of soliciting an $800 bribe from a truck owner. The incident occurred on August 2, 2023, and was reported to the authorities, leading to a successful sting operation that captured Mombe in the act.

In a recent case, Police Constable Peter Loverage Mombe from the Zimbabwe Republic Police was sentenced to 10 months in prison for soliciting an $800 bribe. The charges arose after he demanded a bribe from truck owner Francis Nembire on August 2, 2023, at the Engen Service Station in Harare, where Nembire’s vehicle was detained for transporting lithium ore without a removal permit.

The sequence of events began when Nembire initially agreed to the bribe but later reported Mombe’s actions to the ZRP Internal Investigations Unit due to continuous demands for payment. This prompted a sting operation involving trap money arranged by the authorities. During the operation, Mombe was caught red-handed at the service station, receiving the trap money. When police detectives closed in, Mombe attempted to flee, discarding the cash but was quickly apprehended.

The conviction of Constable Peter Mombe underscores the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s commitment to combating corruption within its ranks. This case highlights the importance of reporting corruption and the effectiveness of internal investigations in addressing misconduct among public officials.
