The Government of Liberia and China have formalized an Economic and Technical Cooperation agreement aimed at funding joint projects across various sectors. Signed on March 28, 2025, by Liberian Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti and Chinese Ambassador Yin Chengwu, this agreement is designed to foster peace, stability, and sustainable development in Liberia.
Chinese Ambassador Yin Chengwu emphasized that the agreement reflects China’s strong support for Liberia and illustrates the commitment to the outcomes of the Forum on China Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). He stated that financial assistance will be allocated to projects identified through bilateral discussions, enhancing mutual collaboration.
During the signing, Ambassador Yin highlighted that President Xi Jinping had proposed ten partnership action initiatives at the FOCAC Summit aimed to modernize ties with African nations. China plans to provide RMB 360 billion in support over three years, with 80 billion earmarked for direct assistance.
Ambassador Yin expressed confidence that the agreement would advance practical cooperation between the nations and align with Liberia’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, linking it to the strategic partnership established between Xi Jinping and President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.
Liberian Foreign Minister Nyanti thanked China for the partnership, expressing that this agreement would enhance various sectors in Liberia. She reaffirmed China’s role as a vital strategic partner and emphasized the importance of continued friendship between the two nations.
