Ahmed Lawal, a painter accused of stealing GH¢1,035,500 worth of cables from the Bank of Ghana, has been granted bail of GH¢1 million. The case is set for May 7, 2025. Prosecution evidence includes CCTV footage of the theft and Lawal’s alleged sale of the stolen cables.
A painter named Ahmed Mohammed Lawal, accused of stealing electrical cables from the Bank of Ghana, has been granted bail of GH¢1 million by an Accra Circuit Court. His release includes the stipulation of two sureties, as ordered by the presiding judge, Mr. Isaac Addo, who has also instructed the Prosecution to adhere to disclosure protocols. The case has been postponed until May 7, 2025.
Lawal faces charges of unlawful entry and theft of electrical cables valued at GH¢1,035,500, which he denies. The prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Agustin Kingsley Oppong, detailed that complainants Samuel Nii Tettey and Davidson Mensah Otinkorang, employees on-site, reported the theft after discovering a break-in on February 16, 2025.
Following the incident, investigators reviewed CCTV footage that recorded Lawal and two other individuals removing the cables from the Energy Farm at the construction site. The stolen copper cables included substantial quantities of various sizes, all worth over a million Ghanaian cedis.
Lawal and his accomplices gained access to the Energy Farm using scaffolding, where they cut the cables with tools and transported them away. Investigative findings indicated that Lawal sold the cables to an unidentified buyer at Kwame Nkrumah Circles, earning about GH¢2,000. However, Lawal did not assist police in capturing his accomplices or the alleged receiver of the stolen cables.
Ahmed Mohammed Lawal has been granted GH¢1 million bail while facing serious allegations of stealing electrical cables from the Bank of Ghana. The court proceedings reveal significant details about the theft, including the value of the stolen goods and the role of CCTV footage in identifying the accused. As the case proceeds, it underscores the importance of adherence to legal procedures and the complexities involved in theft cases.
