Uzbekistan imported 4,415 cars valued at $75.9 million in early 2025, mainly from China, but experienced a 14.5% drop in sales. Domestic car sales remained stable, while imports showed a significant decline compared to previous years, especially in hybrid and electric vehicles.

In the first two months of 2025, Uzbekistan imported 4,415 passenger cars, valued at $75.9 million, according to the National Statistics Committee. The primary exporter was China, which supplied 3,149 units, followed by South Korea with 1,191 cars, and Japan with 32. Smaller contributions were made by Germany, the United States, and Mexico, which sent 11, 8, and 8 units, respectively.

Despite these imports, passenger car sales in February 2025 decreased by 14.5% compared to January, totaling 67,200 vehicles. This decline was largely attributed to a downturn in the foreign car sector, indicating a shift in market trends. However, sales of domestically produced vehicles remained stable at 21,700 units, while new foreign car sales dropped significantly, suggesting possible changes in consumer preferences or disruptions in supply chains affecting the availability of foreign cars.

The Customs Committee reported a drastic drop in Uzbekistan’s car imports in January, with numbers falling nearly sixfold from the previous year. Hybrid car imports fell by an alarming 31 times, totaling only 1,796 vehicles valued at $31 million. Similarly, electric vehicle imports witnessed a 2.5-fold decline.

In February, Uzbekistan imported 2,570 passenger cars worth approximately $45 million. Compared to the same months in 2024, import volumes decreased by 3.53 times in value, and the number of units imported dropped 2.82 times, highlighting ongoing challenges in the automotive sector.

Uzbekistan’s passenger car imports for early 2025 showed a notable value, led by China. However, a significant decline in overall sales indicates changing consumer trends and possible supply chain issues. Furthermore, the Customs Committee highlighted a sharp downturn in imports from the previous year, reinforcing the challenges faced in the automotive sector, including the drastic fall in hybrid and electric vehicle imports.
