Amy Coney Barrett faces backlash from the far right after ruling against the Trump administration in a recent Supreme Court case involving deportations. This criticism marks her second instance of scorn from Trump supporters and raises concerns about judicial independence amid a politically charged climate.

Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett has drawn ire from the far right for siding with liberal justices in a ruling against the Trump administration, marking the second instance of criticism in recent months. This week, Barrett joined a dissent concerning the Trump administration’s use of a 1798 law aimed at deporting alleged gang members to Venezuela and El Salvador. The court ruled 5-4 to permit these deportations, contingent upon due process for detainees.

Backlash from Trump supporters saw some labeling Barrett as “Amy Commie Barrett” due to her dissent. Prominent voices, including Trump ally Mike Lee and Elon Musk, expressed disappointment with her rulings, with Musk referring to her stance as “suicidal empathy, a civilizational risk.” Previously, in March, Barrett’s vote rejecting a Trump-induced freeze on foreign aid also spurred similar accusations against her.

Despite Barrett being a conservative appointee with a 6-3 majority on the court, criticism persists. Appointed by Trump in 2020, she had notably voted to overturn Roe v Wade in 2022. Right-wing commentator Rogan O’Handley, known as DC Draino, disparaged her decision further, implying it favored criminal elements in the U.S.

Social media has intensified criticism; barrett’s expressions with Trump in previous videos are under scrutiny, and right-wing account Catturd called her “everything that’s wrong with this country”. This backlash occurs amid national hostility toward judges opposing Trump, which has spawned threats and calls for impeachment following unpopular rulings. Barrett’s family even faced threats, underlining the volatile environment surrounding judicial decisions.

Amy Coney Barrett’s recent ruling against the Trump administration has sparked significant backlash from far-right supporters, highlighting a growing rift. Criticism includes labeling her as “Amy Commie Barrett” and wider patriotic discontent regarding her decisions. The ongoing attacks on judges who oppose Trump reveal a troubling trend in judicial independence and highlight the current politically charged atmosphere surrounding the judiciary.
