Initially, four actors were taken to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Owerri, where two were declared dead upon arrival. A witness, Kaito Karisia, indicated that the meal and drinks were provided by a movie director who had gone to bed early, leaving the group to enjoy the party.
Karisia shared on Facebook that, upon waking up, the director discovered two actors deceased and two others struggling to breathe. The surviving actors were reported to be receiving medical treatment at the hospital.
According to a survivor, all guests were served rice and a limited quantity of Calypso wine, with only the deceased consuming a greater amount of the drink. DSP Henry Okoye, the police spokesperson, labeled the event as “unfortunate and tragic.” He confirmed that an investigation has commenced to explore the incident further.
To determine the cause of death, the Commissioner of Police for Imo State, Aboki Danjuma, has tasked a pathologist with conducting tests on the deceased. The findings will guide any further actions needed regarding the situation.
