McGovern has also been charged with other offenses, which include directing criminal organizations related to monitoring another individual, James Gately, and attempting to facilitate a conspiracy to murder Gately. During the hearing, McGovern confirmed his identity to the court. His barrister, Olan Callanan BL, indicated that they are preserving their stance regarding the legality of McGovern’s arrest and the court’s jurisdiction. Following his extradition, McGovern was handed over to Gardaí in Dubai on Wednesday, marking a significant moment since Ireland had recently finalized an extradition treaty with the UAE. His return to Ireland was completed aboard an Irish military aircraft, which landed in Baldonnel at Casement Aerodrome. As McGovern arrived, Detective Sergeant Donal Daly stated that he made the formal arrest at 6.38 PM.
Currently, McGovern has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear again in court on June 5 at 11 AM through a videolink, as his legal battles continue amid ongoing investigations into the Kinahan criminal enterprise.
