Niger Police arrest a dismissed soldier for alleged PoS fraud amounting to N920,000. The suspect, identified as Michael Musa, is accused of stealing from various PoS operators. The investigation is ongoing, with more victims expected to come forward.
The Niger Police Command has announced the arrest of a dismissed soldier in connection with an alleged N920,000 Point of Sale (PoS) fraud scheme. Public Relations officer SP Wasiu Abiodun revealed the arrest took place on Tuesday in Minna, following a referral from a magistrate court to the local police.
The saga began on May 12, when a man posing as a soldier tricked a PoS operator near Musa Bello Primary School in Bida, successfully stealing N120,000 and escaping the scene. The same suspect, dressed in military attire, struck again on May 23 by taking N300,000 from a PoS attendant in Kataeregi, and then on May 29, he pulled off a third heist, this time getting away with N500,000 from a shop along Mandela road.
After receiving reports from three victims, police detectives used technical intelligence to track down the suspect, identified as Michael Musa of Mandela Road in Minna. He was apprehended while wearing military uniform and admitted his involvement in the three thefts during questioning. Musa has stated he was dismissed from the army in 2022 in Benin, Edo State.
Authorities indicated that the investigation is ongoing, as more victims have approached police to report similar incidents. The police are urging anyone with information to come forward to facilitate the investigation.
In summary, the Niger Police have arrested a former soldier linked to a series of PoS frauds totaling N920,000. The suspect, dressed in military attire, allegedly deceived PoS operators on multiple occasions, leading to significant losses. The investigation is still active, with police expecting more victims to step forward.
