While they were outside, three young men approached them, allegedly offering Halima N5,000, which she rejected.

The situation escalated when the men, identified as Barafi and Ayya, along with an unnamed accomplice, persisted in their harassment. This harassment quickly led to a physical confrontation, with Usman standing up to the trio. The confrontation turned deadly when one of the assailants pulled out a dagger, stabbing Usman in the back. He was taken to Minna’s General Hospital for emergency care shortly after the attack. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

In the aftermath, officials from the Niger State Police Command examined the crime scene and moved Usman’s body to the mortuary for an autopsy. They have since arrested one suspect, Ahmed Mohammed, while a manhunt is ongoing for the other two individuals involved.

According to Wasiu Abiodun, the Police Public Relations Officer, an investigation is underway to uncover the circumstances that led to this tragic event. “An investigation is currently ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and bring all perpetrators to justice,” he stated in a text message sent to reporters. Abiodun assured further updates would follow, though a follow-up call for more information had yet to be made at the time of this report.
