The 25th Chinese medical team in Maputo provided free clinic services to local residents, treating around 360 patients in various specialties. Patients praised the accessibility and effectiveness of the care they received, highlighting a strong community need. Healthcare leaders expressed gratitude for the Chinese team’s contributions to local health services, especially in light of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Mozambique.

Maputo, June 13 — On Thursday, the 25th Chinese medical team made a notable impact by offering free clinic services in Maputo, Mozambique’s capital. This initiative was held at the Incassane Rural Health Center, where ten specialized doctors provided consultations and free medications to approximately 360 local residents. The team’s expertise ranged widely, including orthopedics, spinal surgery, pain management, and obstetrics among others.

Patients benefited greatly from this outreach. For instance, Argina Rosario, who visited for gynecological care, expressed her gratitude, saying, “They deserve our appreciation. In other hospitals, the treatment process is complicated and exhausting, often making us give up halfway. I truly hope today’s visit will improve my condition.” This reflection was echoed by many others who found the experience more accessible and supportive.

Cristina Francisco, a 78-year-old local, shared her experience saying, “At my age, it’s hard to queue at the hospital. Today, I not only received treatment near my home but also got real, tangible help.” Her comments highlight the accessibility challenges faced by the elderly in healthcare systems.

The positive reception of the clinic was felt not just by the patients, but also by healthcare administrators. Ilidio Silva Cavele, the director of the health center, expressed heartfelt thanks for the efforts of the Chinese team. He stated, “We are very pleased and thankful for this activity. The support from multiple Chinese specialists has significantly improved our medical capacity. They not only provided free consultations but also donated medicine. We hope this cooperation continues and contributes to the development of our country.”

Ma Litai, who leads the 25th Chinese medical team, emphasized the importance of this initiative, especially this year, which commemorates 50 years of diplomatic relations between China and Mozambique. He announced that this was the second clinic of the year, promising to keep reaching out to local communities to bolster healthcare.

This initiative not only improves immediate healthcare access for Mozambicans but also fosters stronger ties between the two nations, paving the way for more collaborative efforts in the healthcare sector.

The 25th Chinese medical team’s outreach in Maputo effectively highlighted the importance of accessible healthcare, being well-received by local patients and health facility leaders alike. The initiative marks a significant milestone in the growing diplomatic relationship between China and Mozambique, promising continued support in the medical field. The joint efforts serve to enhance local healthcare capabilities while demonstrating the potential for international cooperation in addressing public health needs.
