Local GOP Selects Nikki Miller for Special Election

Nikki Miller has officially been selected by Sussex County Republicans to represent them as a candidate for the special election in Delaware’s 20th District, following the vacancy left by former Representative Stell Parker Selby. Interestingly, Miller had already announced plans to run for the same position in the 2026 election cycle. Parker Selby stepped down officially on June 24 and was absent for the entirety of the legislative session, leaving behind an opened seat that many are eager to fill.

Special Election Timing and Key Campaign Issues

The responsibility now lies with the speaker of the house who, by law, must notify the Department of Elections within 10 days to initiate the special election process. However, as of now, no official date has been announced for this critical vote. Miller is already setting a campaign agenda that prioritizes urgent local issues, notably traffic management—a pressing concern she cites among constituents. Her focus extends beyond just transit; she emphasizes the importance of listening to her constituents, safeguarding agriculture, and preserving open spaces within the District.

Miller’s Vision for Community Engagement

Miller, who has a solid background in education, previously served as the principal of Cape Henlopen High School and is currently an administrator for the Seaford School District. With a sincere claim about her goals, she insists, “As a mother, educator, administrator and public servant, I’ve spent my life solving problems, not playing politics.” For Miller, the crux of her campaign is clear: advance the interests of the residents of the 20th District rather than engaging with partisan politics. She is inviting community members to join her in an effort that prioritizes collective progress and addresses the everyday concerns faced by families and individuals in the region.

Nikki Miller’s selection as the GOP candidate for the 20th District special election comes with a promise of local engagement and practical solutions to pressing issues like traffic management and protecting farmland. As the election date remains unannounced, Miller’s campaign message focuses on collaboration and integrity, aiming to represent the community’s voice amid political challenges. With her extensive background in education and public service, Miller is positioning herself as a problem-solver ready to pave the way for future growth.
