Forecast of Extreme Weather Events in Morocco Next Week

Morocco is set to experience strong winds and snowfall next week, with winds at 75-85 km/h and snow at elevations above 1,900 meters. Recent rains have revived water sources after drought, while wave heights could reach 6.5 meters, impacting coastlines from Tangier to Essaouira.
Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology has issued forecasts indicating strong winds and snowfall affecting several provinces on Monday and Tuesday next week. Expected wind speeds may reach between 75 to 85 kilometers per hour, accompanied by dust storms in provinces such as Youssoufia, Chichaoua, and Essaouira.
Additionally, provinces including Marrakech, Berrechid, El Jadida, Rhamna, Safi, and Sidi Bennour will experience adverse weather effects starting Monday morning at 9 a.m. Areas situated above 1,900 meters elevation, including Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Al Haouz, Azilal, and Beni Mellal, are also expecting snowfall of 5 to 20 centimeters, with impacts on Ifrane and Midelt from 6 p.m. Monday to noon Tuesday.
Recent weather patterns have led to significant rainfall, effectively rejuvenating several water sources across Morocco. After seven years of drought, several previously dry waterfalls and dams are now flowing, contributing to 5.7 billion cubic meters stored in dam reservoirs, which is an increase to 33.82% of total capacity.
The rainfall has positively affected Morocco’s ecosystem, especially agriculture, as weather officials anticipate continued precipitation following a brief period of warm weather this weekend.
Warnings have also been issued by Morocco’s Ministry of Equipment regarding severe wave activity projected for Monday afternoon, with wave heights expected to range between 4 and 6.5 meters. This wave activity will particularly impact the Tangier Med Port and along the Atlantic coastline from Cape Spartel (Tangier) to Cape Hadid (Essaouira).
Upcoming weather conditions in Morocco, characterized by strong winds and anticipated snowfall, reflect significant ecological changes. The rains recent improved water levels in reservoirs after years of drought. Additionally, beachgoers and coastal areas must prepare for dangerously high waves, underscoring the need for vigilance during this period of extreme weather.
